I'm sick so I didn't go to class yesterday. I wasn't able to fall asleep all night, and when I woke up at 7:30 with a sore throat, I went "Nah, we're not doin this" and went back to bed until 2. Design & Analysis and French just seemed like a bad idea, and finally skipping a class this semester was definitely worth it. It felt like a sick day when I was a little kid, I just sat around and felt awesome about not going to class.
Today my throat hurt worse, but I went to Philosophy anyway since I don't have to talk. There's this middle-aged mother-of-three super-christian lady there, and she gets on my nerves because whenever the topic turns to religion, she makes these really condecending arguements against agnostics or atheists. Today her arguement was "When people are going down in a plane crash, they scream 'Oh my god' and 'oh Jesus', so that means there's something inside them that believes because why else would they say that?"
My professor said that it's just a conditioned phrase in our language and people are used to hearing it. I scream "Oh god" and "Jesus!" all the time, but that doesn't mean anything. Besides, when I almost drove into a truck, I didn't scream "Jesus save me!", I went "OH SHIT! FUCK FUCK AHHHHH!!!!"
She also had this ass-backwards argument when someone brought up the idea of being able to have morals without being religious. She said that if you say you can be morally good without religion, then you're acknowledging God and you're trying to prove him wrong, therefore he exists and you just disagree with them.
I really don't have anything at all against Christians or Christianity, but some people just make the most fucking retarded leaps in logic to come to the conclusions they want.
It's fine if we don't agree, but it's an insult to me to say "Oh, you believe in God, trust me, you just won't admit it." Fucking condecending attitude bullllshit.
I've got a Design and Analysis Midterm on Thursday, I really gotta be studying for this. But instead, I spent half the night fucking around with Myspace. Remember when I joined it as a joke? I wish I wasn't into it now.
OH! Speaking of things I wish I wasn't into, I don't know what happened, but I'm watching baseball now. I've hated sports all my life, but I've been watching the Yankees Vs Sox games like crazy. I'm cheering for the Sox because I like the underdogs and the Yankees apparantly always win. Last night it went into 14 innings and I couldn't peel myself away from the screen. When the Sox won I jumped up. What the hell has college done to me? I like sports now, I don't hate rap, that Maroon 5 song doesn't bother me, I WENT TO A FOOTBALL GAME! It's funny that the assumption about people when they go to college is that they explore different things, but with me, I just keep getting more and more "mainstream." Ohhhh boy.
